The Archivio Benetton (Benetton Archive) was established towards the end of 2009 from the desire to coherently organize and record the history of the company and its more than 40 years of activity. The aim was to create a structure equipped to promote research and enhance access to the company’s history, with the scientific precision and innovative approach that have always defined Benetton’s values.

The main documented areas are:

  • Product: comprising knitwear and research garments. The archive of knitwear garments is organised by product type and is made up of 12,000 items. Fabric samples, a stitch archive, old magazines, data sheets, colour charts and a thread archive have also been preserved.
  • Communication: consisting of a collection of fashion editorials, catalogues, advertising dating from the Lady Godiva brand to the present day, commercials, posters, window signs, magazines and photographic material.

In addition, the archive includes all documentation regarding accounts, administration, tax and projects for the headquarters and stores. On top of this rich collection of documentation, there is antique machinery (including the first colour dying tubs, weaving machines and shoe making machines), Formula 1 cars, honours and awards.

The Archivio Benetton covers approximately 1300 m2 subdivided into two working areas, of which one is exclusively dedicated to warehousing and storage, and the other is multipurpose for research activities and public reference.

The project, in the execution phase, provides for the use of materials suitable for long-term conservation in accordance with international standards and, as far as possible, with ecological sustainability. It provides for the use of the most appropriate technologies to enhance this cultural heritage and for compatibility among systems.

The Archivio Benetton ensures the preservation of the company’s history and at the same time is a management instrument which may provide inspiration for future ventures, having a rightful place in the rapidly growing area of the cultural development of business archives and fashion archives.
