In 2013 Benetton joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Programme, in which several leading Brands and Retailers committed to work together – involving the entire supply chain – to improve inputs and processes with the aim of eliminating hazardous chemicals from the textile industry.
Working towards the goal of zero discharge of hazardous chemicals demands a holistic approach.
ZDHC is working to develop tools to set new standards in chemical management and developing training activities to teach their implementation.
ZDHC – Academy
Benetton encourages its suppliers to join the ZDHC Academy, a platform, established in 2016, to create awareness, build knowledge and enable skills on sustainable chemical management. In addition to providing free media tools, the Academy organizes certified training courses held by accredited bodies.
ZDHC – Gateway
To reduce the use of hazardous chemicals within the supply chain, in 2017 a specific portal for data exchange has been developed: it is named ZDHC Gateway and it is divided into “ZDHC Gateway – Chemical Module” and “ZDHC Gateway – Wastewater Module”.
The first module consists of a database that allows (chemical) suppliers to safely share all chemical information in line with the most stringent international standards and in accordance with the ZDHC MRSL. The use and consultation of this module help companies to make better decisions about raw materials supply.
The second module, instead, is like a library of all the test reports performed on waste water by wet processes facilities, according to the ZDHC Wastewater Guideline.
Benetton supports and invites all its suppliers to refer to the Gateway not only as source of information and conformity’s verification but also to actively participate to the continuos implementation of the list of products published in it.
