From polo shirts to sweaters, from t-shirt to the Undercolors branded items, cotton is another fundamental fiber in our collections. For this reason, we are committed to continuously increasing our sustainable cotton supply to produce quality items with a reduced carbon footprint.
In 2017, organic cotton, cultivated according to the principles of organic agriculture with no GMOs and with a lower carbon footprint, accounted for 5.5% of the overall production of all of our cotton products.
Since 2017 Benetton Group is a proud Member of The Better Cotton Initiative/BCI to improve cotton farming globally.
The Better Cotton Initiative/BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future.
In 2016-7, the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) licensed over 1.3 million farmers from 21 countries on five continents.
Benetton is committed to sourcing 100% of its cotton as ‘more sustainable cotton’ by 2025. ‘More sustainable cotton’ includes Better Cotton, Organic Cotton and Recycled Cotton.
In 2018, Benetton sourced 23% of its cotton as Better Cotton. Better Cotton is sourced via a system of Mass Balance and not physically traceable to end-products. See bettercotton.org for details.
Since 2012, Benetton Group’s collections have not carried denim items treated with sand-blasting.
