Sisley Style Fever

The FW19 collection of the brand that originated in the Sixties has a bourgeois yet "sophisticated traveller" attitude, as suitable for a tequila in Guadalajara as it is for a Martini in the Hamptons. All while it references iconic women and sea-faring philosophers

WOMEN
Sisley: in other words or that discreet bourgeois charm, freed from all the constraints the word implies, that with subtle intelligence reclaims an easy, everyday elegance that never goes out of fashion. This is next winter’s Sisley woman. She adores the city - where her formal chic style gets a softer edge thanks to supple cuts and a range of “cosmetic” colours – and art, interpreted with cool, up to the minute printed fabrics and shapes. Travel too, is a Sisley woman passion and in the new collection it is referenced by big volumes, long dresses and elements that recall distant lands, from Mexico to Europe and the East. But it is the classy stylishness and grace of certain great ladies – Jackie Kennedy above all – that is emphasized by Sisley’s style-conscious eye. Trapeze lines, vintage-flavour prints, strong colours, those bright notes that were used so much in the Sixties. Wide, flared Capri-style pants cropped above the ankle, miniskirts and minidresses worn beneath well-structured, broad coats. And free reign to silk, printed satin and devorĂ© velvet, sublime fabrics for bow tie neck blouses, handkerchief-hem dresses, full skirts and slimming high-waisted flared pants. Sisley relaunches a super-feminine allure that’s sexy but discreet, with the unexpectedness and free-spirit that has always been in the brand’s DNA. The Sisley A woman plays with colour - from midnight blue to gender neutral dove grey, deeper grey, brick red, camel and burgundy - and mixes workwear style with marble-washed denim, a classic trenchcoat, a reefer jacket, jacquard sweater and velvet one-piece, so creating a wardrobe that speaks a common language, interchangeable and full of personality. A wardrobe inspired by icons such as Frida Kahlo and or Loulou de la Falaise: what counts is character. So folk prints, strong colours and wool coats, an unusual zebra pattern and knit maxi dresses are all mixed and matched. Jeans are high-waisted, shirts have revers and blazers are roomy and eye-catching, to pair with bouclĂ©, vinyl eco-leather, uneven velvet and silver booties. Winning colours are shades of grey, ice white and dark brown. Evenings, cocktails, parties and afterhours are times to live it up with daring necklines, side slits, lurex or slippery silk, shoulder straps and ruches in a bold mix of Eighties vibe, disco diva and on-trend cuts.

MEN
Like the Sisley woman, the Sisley man, too, is curious and enthusiastic, a citizen of the world, a traveller and a collector. But above all, practical and in love with the sea, which becomes a metaphor for life. His FW 2019 look consists of easy pieces that take on winter with style and determination. Navy blue features a lot on very cool pieces that are either slim-fit or oversize as the trend dictates. The denim parka, coated “seacoat” and textured sweaters are really handsome. The colour range is enlivened with white, yellow and Klein blue. Stripes are an evergreen and feature on sweatshirts, pullovers and pants. The Sisley man’s urban globetrotter look also includes sweaters that look hand knit and have an “on the road” feel. Patterns abound: tartans, checks, camouflage, black & white graphic and folk prints - revamped in virile shades of sludge green, black and grey, but also brick red, ochre and red currant. A key feature of the style is well-structured outerwear – padded trucker jackets, roomy reefers, peacoats, wool jackets and XL bombers. What emerges is the brand’s true nature: rebellious, urban and original. Velvets and textured wools are casually paired with faded denim or easy vinyl puffer jackets. Ice white – and white pants are the epitome of coolness – becomes a style declaration mixing punk and rock. Wear with a camel coat or an oversize puffer jacket, a tartan pattern sweater or mustard colour cable knit.
